Twitter bans third-party ads

Third-party providers who want to insert paid ads into peoples’ tweets simply won’t be able to do so for much longer. Owing to an upgrade to Twitter’s API, and the terms, only Twitter’s Promoted Tweets will be allowed to be inserted into peoples’ timelines.

Of course, many people are crying foul, claiming that the move will mean the end of several companies, but Twitter is not calling for the end of ads, just the end of inserting them through the API. Twitter said on its blog that “our primary concern is the long-term health and value of the network,” which apparently led to the elimination of ads through the API. How users and companies react to the news will remain to be seen.
