Google Wave: One year old
by Mike, posted on June 11, 2010
It’s been just over a year since Google Wave first launched, and at the time, everyone wanted access. It started off in beta, and invites were a hot commodity. Now, after its first birthday, the site is open to all users.
Google is a central application. That is, it’s hosted in one specific location, and users all congregate at that specific location to share whatever content is being shared. An added benefit is that users who have access to the content can edit it, allowing everyone to collaborate and have a say in the editorial or preparatory process.
Google Wave has been put through its trials: it’s been used to disseminate news about the Seattle police shooting, and it’s been used to host a worldwide student debate on the climate. The question is whether or not users will embrace Google Wave, or whether it’s a passing fad.
