Epic fail for Twitter

Folks who wanted to update their Twitter profiles, change their avatar, or their background were met with anything but results today. For most of the day, they got the fail whale. After that, they were informed that “something is technically wrong,” raising the ire of users, evident by searching that phrase on Twitter.
Twitter remained silent on the matter for much of the morning, finally posting a vague and brief status update at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time. The problem remained unfixed almost four hours later.
This, of course, is only the latest in a long line of shortcomings from the wildly popular site, most likely due to the explosive growth that the site is experiencing. Still, this is one of the first times that users haven’t been able to update their avatars or backgrounds, yet still tweet normally.
