Specifically, the alerts would inform the user when their friends post updates, photos, links, and so forth.

Essentially, the feature allows you to subscribe to a user, and in so doing, you’ll get details on almost every aspect of their Facebook activity. It’s not yet known whether this feature will be an opt-in feature, or if you’ll be able to opt out. In any event, it could potentially raise privacy concerns, and it just seems to invite stalking if abused. On the other hand, it also seems as if it’s an easy way to keep tabs on a friend’s activities without any effort.

Starting today, Google is rolling out a handy new feature that will help you separate the important messages. Appropriately enough, it’s called Priority Inbox, and learns based on your habits.

You can mark messages as being important or not important, and based on that, Gmail will “learn” your habits, and move messages into the Priority Inbox queue. Of course, you can still use the filter feature to automatically flag certain messages as being important.

This sounds like a handy feature, and can help people tell what messages are important at a glance. Try it out today, and see what you think!

But now he is known as the plaintiff in a lawsuit against not one, but 11 companies, including Google and Apple. The lawsuit was filed through his own company, Interval Licensing, LLC. He claims in the lawsuit that AOL, Apple, eBay, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, Yahoo, and YouTube have infringed upon patents he controls the rights to.

The patents were not as the result of his own inventions, but they came through work done by Interval Research, a software lab that Allen co-founded. A spokesman for the company says the lawsuit was necessary in order to protect their interests. No representatives for the companies involved were available for comment.

Rumors put Apple in talks with Fox, with the reported goal of putting Fox shows on iTunes for rental. If this were to happen, you could “rent” shows for 48 hours, and the shows would be available a day after they originally air.

CBS, NBC and Disney are rumored to be involved in similar discussions, which would make programming available from all of the major broadcast networks. If you don’t like commercials, then this may be for you; the rumors also state that there would be no commercials. Confirmation of this rumor is expected next month, along with news about Apple TV, which would deliver movies and videos to customers’ television sets.

That’s because the company has filed a patent application. Even though the United States government cleared the way for the devices to be jailbroken in the first place, the company is seeking to protect its assets, including not only the iPhone itself, but the iPad, too.

Although the patent application was made public Thursday, it was actually filed back in February, and according to the application, the company is seeking to identify stolen or jailbroken devices, as well as protect private customer data. One possible application is when a customer’s phone is reported stolen, the data could be moved to Apple’s servers, and then erased from the device, which of course would be disabled.

Apple could also apparently disable the jailbroken devices, and it could inform AT&T, who could then disconnect phone service. Either way, if this application is granted, it could grant Apple the exclusive power to disable both stolen and jailbroken devices.

You will be able to “check in” on Facebook, and let your friends know your location. It went live via web-based mobile access, as well as Facebook’s new iPhone app.

There will be privacy features in place so that you don’t have to reveal your home’s location, or if you want to block a specific location that you’re in. The default setting will be for friends only, so you don’t have to worry about scrambling to update your security settings.

Though this does sound much like Foursquare, it actually appears to be quite different, and it will be interesting to see what user reaction is.

He did not disclose details surrounding his appearance, only the fact that he would be appearing on the runaway hit, which depicts a group of scientists living, working, and playing together.

Wozniak is the first Apple executive to appear on the show, but not the first techie. That honor apparently goes to Wil Wheaton, perhaps best known for his role as Wesley Crusher on “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.

The airdate for Wozniak’s episode is not known yet, nor is it known what character he’s playing. It will, however, be interesting to see how they handle the fact that one of the show’s characters uses Windows, as alluded to in a previous episode.

PayPal is already available on iPhone and Blackberry devices, so this next step seems like a natural progression for the payment giant. Although this is far from certain, and is at this point but a rumor, the idea is very intriguing, and it will be interesting to see if Android users embrace the new feature, should it come to reality.

Testing for the new feature began two months ago, and it is now available to most users, if not everyone. The feature is somewhat similar to the “mutual friends” feature on Facebook, and to see this new feature, simply go to another user’s profile, and you will see the “You Both Follow” feature in the sidebar.

There is also a “view all” link, which will allow you to see the full list of people that you both follow. This could be a valuable feature for those looking to find common ground with those they follow, or simply just for the fun of it. Are you using the new feature?

The EEE pad, which runs under the Windows platform (and is shown to the left), will be the basis for the Android tablet. It will, of course, differ vastly from the Windows versions, because it will be running Google’s Android operating system.

The first of its tablets will likely bow in December, and another will follow in January. Two months later, then, the Android version will come along, and with the tablets will come serious competition for the iPad. Will users bite? Will it do as well as Asus is hoping for?
